Careen was born in Sandwick, Isle of Lewis and although brought up in Glasgow, she spent the summers there and is still a frequent visitor.  Some of her paintings are influenced by her love of the West Coast of Scotland.   She prefers to work with the bright colours of acrylic.

On retiral, from the University of Glasgow, she and her husband moved to Ayr.  Careen had her first exhibition in Glasgow Royal infirmary.  Since then she has also exhibited in the Oasis Cafe, Glasgow, Maclauren Gallery, Loudoun Hall, GreenHeart Gallery and for 2 consecutive years with the Ayr Open Studios event.  She is a member of Ayr Art Circle and takes part in their exhibitions including Ayr Hospital.
